In the last decades, the interests in art and the role of art academies have decreased. In the context of a spatial design I want to invite people to rediscover the art academy of Willem de Kooning in Rotterdam. An art academy holds loads of creative people with interesting ideas and new thoughts on society. Also skills and determination are qualities that art  students have. However, all this is hidden behind a thick facade.

Because all the workspaces are located behind the windows facing the alley in between the two buildings, I want to invite people to take a peek and see what happens inside the academy. By installing suspended balconies in front of every window, the workshops become a display for people who are interested to see what happens inside this creative place. The somewhat constructivist design of the balconies lets the participant immerse into the object and give them literally a new perspective of the art academy.
