The open designer collective has a different approach towards open design. The collective shows the variety and characteristics of the individual designers.
Every designer works independent, but they all work on the same collection of chairs. It’s a collection because they’re all generated from the same spoken description that the designers receive. It’s a description of a non-existing design so there is no original, no static image on which you can compare the outcome of the different designers.
The collection reflects how various designers interpreted the description. In a way the chairs are all related. The same characteristics and parts are included in each design, but in different ways. The chair is like a business card of the designer, it shows their knowledge, taste and way of working.
The open designer collective offers a platform for these designers in the form of exhibitions. This project was done in collaboration with: Hugo van der Loo, Fleur van Leth & Lisa Jongejans
